Grades & admission routes

  • University of Geneva

    Completed university degree

A recognised degree from a programme lasting at least 3 years. The school certificate alone does not meet this requirement.

  • ETH Zurich

    Reduced or full entrance exam

The reduced exam requires the national certificate and admission to the same subject at a recognised university in Oman. Otherwise, the full exam applies.

  • EPFL

    Entrance exam

The national certificate allows an application through the exam route. EPFL assesses the curriculum to determine the full or reduced exam.

What this means for your childFor Geneva, the General Education Diploma must be followed by a completed university degree. ETH and EPFL provide separate routes through their entrance examinations.

Selected university examples · undergraduate admission
UniversityWhat to check
University of Geneva

A university degree from a programme of at least three years is required; the school certificate alone is insufficient. University and programme recognition, language and faculty conditions also apply.

Official requirements
ETH Zurich

Certificate plus admission to the intended subject at a recognised university in Oman, plus the reduced ETH examination; otherwise the comprehensive examination. ETH assesses the complete application. German requirements also apply.

Official requirements
EPFL

National certificates from countries outside the EU/EFTA/UK fall within the eligible examination category. EPFL determines the full or reduced exam after assessing the curriculum. Swiss nationality or prior Swiss residence is not a prerequisite for these national diplomas.

Official requirements

Examples concern public-university Bachelor entry in 2026/27; recheck the intake, programme and language rules. Private universities, hospitality schools and universities of applied sciences (HES/FH) set their own requirements.

Considering an applied university, business or hospitality school?

Applied universities (HES/FH), private and hospitality schools have their own entry requirements, which may include practical experience. We assess your child’s record to identify suitable options across these institutions.

What can your family do next?

Applying immediately after school

We identify universities whose admission routes fit the General Education Diploma and explain any further study or examination required. Preparation is chosen for the requirements of those universities.

A completed Omani university degree

Document the award, programme and duration, then choose between a new Bachelor application and a subject-relevant Master application. These are different admission assessments.

Documents and common questions

Have these documents ready

  • General Education Diploma with its full title and awarding authority.
  • School transcripts covering the final three years and grading information.
  • Omani university admission evidence or a completed degree with university transcripts, as applicable.
  • Language evidence and the translations or certified documents the institution requests.

Questions parents ask

Can ECUS replace Geneva’s university-degree requirement?

The 2026/27 Oman entry does not provide that substitution. Plan ECUS only when the university explicitly requires it for the application under consideration.

Does a recognised degree guarantee entry to a Master?

No. This guide concerns Bachelor admission examples. A Master application requires a separate review of the degree, subject preparation, academic record and programme conditions.
