What does your child’s diploma open up?
These research-university examples use published 2026/27 rules. They illustrate the checks we make; the intended intake and programme must be confirmed separately.
FRENCH BAC GÉNÉRAL
The subject combination matters.
12/20 + subjects
Geneva lists 12/20 overall, maths specialty in Première then maths specialty or complémentaires in Terminale, plus SVT or physics-chemistry specialty in both years. Lausanne requires maths specialty in both years. General subject and programme conditions also apply.
FULL IB DIPLOMA
Check the score out of 42.
32/42 + HL mix
Geneva and Lausanne list 32/42 excluding bonus points, the prescribed six-subject mix and at least three Higher Level subjects, including maths or a natural science. Send the individual subjects and levels, not only the total out of 45.
ANOTHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA
Direct entry needs checking.
For a Russian national school certificate, Geneva also lists two years of recognised university study and proof of university admission in Russia. A Russian citizen with an IB follows the IB qualification route instead. The qualification matters more than the passport here.
Three routes, different starting points.
| Route | Key entry question | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Research university | Does the diploma and subject mix meet the university’s rules? | Academic recognition, language and programme selection are separate checks. |
| Applied sciences — HES-SO example | Is relevant practical preparation already complete? | Foreign-diploma entry generally requires a relevant year of work or a validated preparatory year, alongside diploma equivalence. |
| Private hospitality — Glion example | Experiential Year or direct Bachelor entry? | A qualifying secondary diploma can lead through the Experiential Year. Direct entry has separate experience or vocational conditions. |

We compare conditions and payment commitments, then coordinate the remaining steps towards enrolment.
If direct entry is not the right next step.
A recognised diploma and good grades can still leave a gap in required subjects or levels. We first identify what is missing and which route the university accepts. Where appropriate, that may mean preparing for the Swiss Maturité or a required examination, alongside school or during a separate preparation period. Each institution determines admission.
